Debora Steven

Civil Engineering Graduate

When I was in Form Four, FUES visited my school to deliver a session on career counselling. That day changed everything for me. I still remember one powerful statement: ‘Engineering needs women.’ Hearing those words gave me the courage to look past the negative perceptions society often has about women in engineering.

From then on, I started thinking differently about my future. FUES mentored me closely, involved me in their hands-on STEM activities, and kept reminding me that my dream was valid. Their support
gave me the confidence to pursue Civil Engineering at the University of Dar es Salaam, where I successfully graduated.

Even after graduation, FUES has continued to stand by me, and through their connections, I secured a job with a construction company here in Dar es Salaam. I am proud to represent women in
engineering, and grateful to FUES for shaping this path.
